June 2024 | In times of a rapidly evolving strategic business context in China, CMG’s cross-cultural vantage point and our experience in supporting HQ-subsidiary processes focused on strategic decision-making and other management issues relating to the Chinese market have been increasingly sought after. Therefore, we have summarized some of this experience in the form of six building blocks for effective corporate strategy-making that we propose for the Chinese market today as a new Horizon Scan published through the World Economic Forum (WEF)’s Strategic Intelligence series.
Our core premise is that corporate decision-makers cannot narrowly focus on the strategy-making portion but need to proactively embrace a more comprehensive process that encompasses several elements, each requiring effective facilitation between international headquarters’ and China subsidiaries’ vantage point, priorities and interests to achieve optimized strategy outcomes.
The six strategic building blocks are:
1) shared epistemic
2) deeper intelligence
3) clear strategic choice
4) refined capabilities
5) earned HQ-subsidiary trust
6) effective execution
