Roles and career pyramid
4 differentiated consulting vs. 2 advisor roles
In order to excel on high quality research, analysis and consulting, as well as trusted relationships with our clients, partners and stakeholders, CMG aspires to be a talent-centric professional services boutique that affiliates its team members with its mission, values, personal development opportunities and co-ownership.
The CMG role and career pyramid below depicts our organizational set-up and the key roles that we believe we need to achieve this aspiration and that enable us to best unlock both the firm’s and our collective potential.
We look at roles through three main dimensions: skills, thematic expertise and alignment on values. As a management consulting and research firm the foundation of any productivity for us are research/analytical, communication and process skills. Our thematic expertise framework differentiates four key expertise areas: policy, macro-economic, geopolitics/-economics/trade, business/strategy. Our values consist of our cross-cultural epistemic, interdisciplinarity, “multipolar” analytics, research values (“original, fact-based and calibrated”) and our professional services DNA.

Recruiting calendar: CMG is recruiting for its Associate Program in three yearly cycles
The calendar below outlines the dates and process for our digital recruiting events, held three times a year. Please submit your application for the specific cycle latest one week prior to each event. Suited candidates will be invited to join the digital recruiting event, which is an information event where CMG presents its business model, values, people and shares some reflections on consulting as well as an illustrative case example.
Please make an explicit reference in your motivation letter about what you perceive to be your primary thematic expertise / interest area from the following four pillars of CMG’s thematic expertise framework: 1) macro / public policy, 2) macro-economics, 3) geopolitics / geoeconomics / trade, 4) business. The Associate program does not require strict specialization and prior related formal experience but it seeks to identify at least one primary and 1-2 secondary thematic expertise/interest areas per candidate for more tailored exploration throughout the recruitment process.
After the digital recruiting event on the same day, you'll receive a questionnaire for you to fill in your self-reflections about the discussions during the event including a mini-case study, as well as to capture some of your HR information. If we see a promising mutual fit with our requirements, we'll invite you to a subsequent first round interview to discuss your self-reflections, get a personal impression and jointly explore a possible "fit" of your profile with our needs. Upon positive outcome, you will be invited to a final round case-study interview. We strive for these various process steps to take place within 2-3 weeks compactly. Joining as a (Senior) Analyst
Applicants interested in a (Senior) Analyst role with CMG can reach out to us outside of the Associate program’s pre-defined recruiting cycles.
The tailored recruiting process works as follows:
-
You submit your materials (CV, motivation letter)
-
We carefully review and would reject in case we don’t see sufficient potential for a potential mutual fit based on the requirements laid out in the job description (cf. below)
-
If we see the potential for a mutual fit, we share with you two things:
-
A short CMG explainer video
-
An online survey / self-reflection questionnaire for you to fill-in
-
-
Upon positive assessment, a CMG representative will do a personal touchpoint call with you to get an impression, clarify questions from the survey and understand your motivation and needs
-
If the process continues, we follow-up with a case-study exercise which you will prepare and present to and discuss with CMG colleagues as part of an interview according to a mutually agreed timeline. Further questions and discussion points will be identified during this interview for subsequent offering alignment if mutual fit is confirmed.
