Roles and career pyramid
4 differentiated consulting vs. 2 advisor roles
In order to excel on high quality research, analysis and consulting, as well as trusted relationships with our clients, partners and stakeholders, CMG aspires to be a talent-centric professional services boutique that affiliates its team members with its mission, values, personal development opportunities and co-ownership.
The CMG role and career pyramid below depicts our organizational set-up and the key roles that we believe we need to achieve this aspiration and that enable us to best unlock both the firm’s and our collective potential.
We look at roles through three main dimensions: skills, thematic expertise and alignment on values. As a management consulting and research firm the foundation of any productivity for us are research/analytical, communication and process skills. Our thematic expertise framework differentiates four key expertise areas: policy, macro-economic, geopolitics/economics/trade, business/strategy. Our values consist of our cross-cultural epistemic, interdisciplinarity, “multipolar” analytics, research values (“original, fact-based and calibrated”) and our professional services DNA.

Recruiting calendar
CMG is recruiting for its Associate Program in three yearly cycles, each time centered around a digital recruiting event, an information event where CMG presents its business model, values, people, and shares some reflections on consulting, as well as an illustrative case example.
The next digital recruiting events will take place on:
-
Wednesday, October 22, 2025
-
Wednesday, February 25, 2026
-
Wednesday, August 26, 2026
Please submit your application for a specific cycle at the latest one week before the digital recruiting event.
In your motivation letter, please make an explicit reference to what you perceive to be your primary thematic expertise/interest area from the following four pillars of CMG’s thematic expertise framework:
-
Macro- and Public policy
-
Macroeconomic
-
Geopolitics, Geoeconomics, Trade, Technology
-
Business and Strategy
The Associate program is open for both generalists (more than one core thematic expertise area) and specialized profiles (e.g. trade and technology).
After the digital recruiting event, you will receive a self-reflection questionnaire for you to fill in about the discussions you participated in during the event, as well as to capture some of your personal information. If we see the potential for a mutual fit (cf. requirements as defined in the job description), we will invite you to a subsequent first round interview to discuss your self-reflection, get a personal impression, and jointly explore a possible fit of your profile with our needs. Upon a positive outcome, you will be invited to a case-study interview. We strive to complete these various process steps within 3 to 4 weeks.

Joining as a (Senior) Analyst
Applicants interested in a (Senior) Analyst role with CMG can reach out to us anytime during the year. We confirm the reception of your application, but will only review it opportunistically at our own discretion, unless you are responding to a specific hiring call for a (Senior) Analyst position advertised by CMG. Therefore, for unsolicited applications, no commitments can be made about review feedback or timeline.
If we review your application and see the potential for a mutual fit, the recruiting process works as follows:
-
We share with you a short CMG explainer video to enable you to fill in a self-reflection questionnaire
-
Upon positive assessment, a CMG representative will conduct a personal touchpoint call with you to gain a first personal impression, clarify our questions regarding your questionnaire answers, and understand your motivation and needs
-
If the process continues, we will follow up with a case-study exercise, which you will prepare and present to CMG colleagues for discussion according to a mutually agreed timeline. Further questions and discussion points will be identified during this interview for subsequent offering alignment if mutual fit is confirmed
