Connect Switzerland 2025 - Breakout Session 08: Tourism at a crossroads - Navigating shifting tides in China and the U.S.

Global dynamics are shifting, with political and economic changes shaping the future of tourism. The U.S. and China, Switzerland’s most important long-haul markets, play a key role in this transformation. While U.S. travel to Switzerland has surged post-pandemic, China’s recovery has been slower than expected. Meanwhile, evolving geopolitical relations between these two major economies continue to influence global travel patterns.

How will these developments impact the Swiss tourism industry? What strategies can help navigate uncertainties and leverage opportunities?

In this session, Markus Herrmann Chen, along with two other industry experts, provided key insights into the changing landscape with regards to China and explored what lies ahead for Swiss tourism.

Speakers:

  • Peter Düggeli – Executive Planner & Talk Show Host, Swiss Public Broadcasting SRF

  • Markus Herrmann-Chen – Co-Founder & Managing Director, China Macro Group (CMG)

  • Dr. Rahul Sahgal – CEO, Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce

We would like to thank Switzerland Tourism for inviting CMG to contribute to Connect Switzerland 2025.
